Work continues on the redesigned Mitsubishi L200 / Triton as spy photographers have snapped the truck wearing a production body.

Looking far better than previous mules, this particular prototype follows in the footsteps of the Outlander as it adopts a massive grille that is flanked by slender daytime running lights with integrated turn signals. The headlights reside further below and should be joined by sizable pieces of chrome trim.

Moving further back, we can see an evolutionary design with streamlined styling and angular accents above the wheel arches. They’re joined by a familiar greenhouse, but it’s worth noting the truck appears to have a longer wheelbase and this should result in a more accommodating rear passenger compartment.

Out back, the changes are less noticeable but the tailgate appears more traditional and better integrated. That being said, it appears the next L200 / Triton will be instantly recognizable when seen from behind.

Mitsubishi hasn’t said much about the truck lately but, in 2020, the company’s Small but Beautiful business plan revealed the new Triton would be introduced in FY2022, which runs from April 1st, 2022 to March 31st, 2023. That being said, there has been some speculation that the truck won’t arrive until late 2023.

Little is known about the truck at this point, but it’s expected to have a lot in common with the next-generation Nissan Navara. Diesel engines are also a given and they could potentially be joined by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Luckily, there were no casualties in this triple-truck collision on a highway in Poland.
