Nigeria Union of Teachers, Lagos State chapter, on Thursday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari, the winner of the 2019 Presidential elections, to form a government of national unity.
Mr Adesina Adedoyin, The Chairman of the union, said in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that a government of national unity would ensure everybody contributed to national development.
He said no one has monopoly of knowledge, adding that if the opposing side had good programmes and ideas it should be looked at and considered so everyone could contribute to the nation’s development.
“Form a government of national unity that will make everybody to contribute to the nation’s development.
“People in power can be advised, people can submit memoranda to the government so that we can go ahead with the country.
“I want the loser to be gallant in his loss and the winner to be humane in victory so that they can move the country forward,’’ the NUT chairman said.
Adedoyin urged Buhari not to forget to fulfil his promises to Nigerians and workers in general and to move into action immediately.
“I want to congratulate our president for winning the ticket for a second term of four years.
“Now that he has won the election, maybe the administration will be able to settle down on the new minimum wage which has been lingering for the past three months. He should not forget and relent on the promises he made to Nigerians and workers during the general elections.
It was agreed during the 2011 negotiation that every three years, the minimum wage of the workers will be reviewed.
“There is need without any noise to implement the minimum wage for workers considering the prevailing economic hardship now”
“Our leaders, when they make an agreement, they move one step forward and 10 steps backward, only in Nigeria’ the NUT boss said.
