Acura will produce a limited run of the sedan in three NSX-derived colors, set for delivery later this year.
Long Beach Blue is a fitting color code for the new Acura TLX Type S PMC, with the company's US headquarters a few miles away in Torrance, California. However, what makes this edition of the TLX Type S special is where and how it will be produced. Across the country in Marysville, Ohio, Acura's Performance Manufacturing Center is set to begin production of the PMC version of the TLX Type S later this year. Notorious for reviving the NSX name, the Ohio plant will hand-manufacture a limited run of the popular sedan for the 2023 model year. Curva Red and 130R White join Long Beach Blue as the three colors derived from former NSX paint. Exterior upgrades include a Berlina Black roof and door handles, as well as black-chrome quad-exhaust tips across all three colorways. A carbon-fiber diffuser and decklid spoiler are also included.
The 355-hp all-wheel-drive sedan will connect to the road through a set of 255/55 section Pirelli P-Zero tires mounted on lightweight 2o-inch y-spoke wheels. These same wheels and tires are available as a package on the current Type S. The rear-bias SH-AWD system, adaptive dampers, and chassis bracing pieces appear to be unchanged on the PMC version. Climb into the PMC edition and you'll find more carbon-fiber trim, illuminated side sills, and premium Type S floor mats. The interior leather color is dependent on the exterior color: Curva Red has an ebony interior, 130R White comes with a red interior, and Long Beach Blue stands out with an orchid interior. Regardless of the color, Milano leather seats with Ultrasuede inserts are standard. A heated, flat-bottom steering wheel rounds out the interior package.
Pursuant to PMC protocols, each TLX Type S PMC will receive dyno-tuning, paint inspection, and a rough-road simulation before delivery. Once these quality control tests are complete, each car will receive a unique PMC edition serial number and accompanying plaque.
Details about price or unit numbers have yet to be revealed, but orders will open later this year. The current TLX Type S starts at $53,700 and PMC edition cars garner an additional $1,995 destination and handling charge. Given the $4,000 price bump on the last generation TLX PMC, it's likely this edition will rise to the $60,000 mark, including delivery charges.
Competing with the performance trims of BMW, Audi, and Cadillac midsize sedans, the PMC edition will carry a premium that coveting Acura fans might happily pay.
