Very nearly twenty years on, the Porsche Cayenne has been every bit the success that Porsche had intended, perhaps even more so, much to the dismay of Porsche purists. It is, however, thanks to revenues from the Cayenne and now the Macan that Porsche has been able to not only grow from strength to strength, but also put more money into the R&D of their sports cars – just for the purists – and establish new sub-brands such as Porsche Classic, which services older models with spare parts and even a full accessories range, which comprisies items such as the remarkable PCCM.
Porsche Classic has now welcomed the first-generation 955/957 Cayenne to its line up with two test beds being used to preview potential individualisation options for the SUV. While the Hunt, Adventure and Rallye decal sets showcase some rather cool ideas for the potential customers, Porsche note that these are not sold as compete packages, but rather hint at the “approach that first-generation Cayenne owners will be able to take.”
Eduard Reichert, Manager of Product and Quality Management at Porsche Classic, said, “We have seen what owners have already been doing to their vehicles, when it comes to roof tents, extra lights, and all-terrain tires, for example. We will be offering customers the chance to equip their cars in a very unique way. Individual and sporty.”
Floor mats, luggage compartment trays, wheelsets, roof baskets, and mud flaps are all on the cards and with 275 000 units having been produced in the Cayenne’s 8-year production run, a large number of customers will be able to benefit from these exciting new items, of which Porsche say “the possibilities are almost limitless”.
