Porsche and Pixar reunited to build a new one-off 911 based on the "Cars" character with proceeds going to benefit children and families.
There's some exciting news for Porsche, Disney and Pixar fans, especially those of the animated Cars film franchise. The German marque teamed up with Pixar Animation Studios to unveil a very special Porsche model inspired by one of the most popular 911s: The character Sally Carrera. Porsche released a short video earlier announcing the exciting venture.
“Vehicles need a face and a story. And the animated Pixar's film 'Cars' has impressively transferred done just that: brought cars to life on the big screen,” says Dr. Sebastian Rudolph, Vice President of Communications, Sustainability, and Politics at Porsche AG.
In the movie Cars, Sally Carrera was a lawyer from California who appreciated style and elegance. Now, Sally Carrera is being brought back to life in a new way. The goal was to create a completely drivable 911 inspired by the animation, but not an exact copy.
The one-of-a-kind 911 Sally Special is just as unique as Sally Carrera herself, and there will only be one made. It's slated to go on auction by RM Sotheby’s on Saturday, August 20, 2022, as part of Monterey Car Week in California. Proceeds from the auction will go to two charities: Girls Inc. and the UN Refugee Agency.
The Sally Special project started in November of last year. It united members of the original Cars team that brought the film character Sally Carrera to life over 20 years ago.
“We decided early on that we wanted to create a completely drivable 911 – inspired by Sally Carrera,” says Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise of Pixar Animation Studios. “We asked ourselves: if Sally were built today as a road-approved model, what would she look like?”
The Porsche 911 Sally Special is completely street-legal and based on the fastest and most agile version of the 911 Carrera lineup: the GTS. It features a manual gearbox that really taps into Sally Carrera’s passion for driving. It’s not hard to see that the creators paid strict attention to each customization detail, making this one of the most intense projects this team ever worked on.
The 911 Sally Special is hand-painted in a stunning custom Sallybluemetallic. The car sits on “five-arm design” wheels adapted to the 20/21-inch dimensions of the current 911 generation. This setup also creates a visual link to the original 996-generation 911 that inspired the original Sally Carrera character in the movie.

Porsche interior designer Daniela Milošević led the team that worked with Pixar to create the new blue color as well as design the vehicle's interior. They developed a special Pepita houndstooth fabric upholstery in three colors, combined with chalk-colored leather and Speed Blue stitching.

In addition to the car itself, a unique 911 Sally Special Chronograph will also be available at the auction. The piece features a COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.100 movement. This unique accessory was precision engineered and manufactured at Porsche's own watchmaking facility in Solothurn, Switzerland.
