The new Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition pickup truck is a new iteration focused mainly on improving off-roading capabilities.

When the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition was unveiled, it became readily apparent that this new iteration of Sierra emphasized boosting its off-roading capabilities with superior materials and equipment. With assistance from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), this new Sierra has now become the most off-road capable factory Sierra that GMC has to offer.

Several parts and pieces of this GMC have AEV's signature written all over them, and more advanced skid plates help protect numerous crucial interior components. Further, the interior is decked out with many premium luxury features. Read on to find out just how capable the GMC 2023 Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition gets regarding off-roading.

This new Sierra was made for off-roading, with the central goal being to enhance and improve its off-road capabilities in many ways. The Vice-President of GMC Global, Duncan Aldred, even noted how the combination of on-road technology and off-road capability is what appeals most to their customer base.

They chose to incorporate AEV into this endeavor because Aldred claims the company has “expertise in engineering and integrating performance-driven parts and accessories.” As compared to the standard GMC Sierra, the 1500 AT4X AEV Edition has larger tires and a new bumper, so the front grille and fascia had to be updated to accommodate them. Its standard 6.2-L V8 engine is also quite powerful.

In addition, for when drivers aren't off-roading, an optional bolt-on step assist is available. This Sierra also has gloss black door handles and a black contrast inner tailgate as part of its exterior color scheme. When this new Sierra arrives later in the 2023 model year, it will showcase its full complement of technology, novel features, and improved and increased off-road capabilities.

Thanks to certain enhancements provided by AEV, off-road capabilities are superior to what they were in previous iterations of the Sierra and similar vehicles. Some aspects that have improved are ground clearance, approach, break-over angles, departure angles, and other parts, components, and technology.

Certain aspects are provided purely for their off-roading contributions, such as front winch capability, heavy-duty cast recovery points, a 23.4-degree departure angle, and a 32.5-degree front approach angle. The springs are also uniquely tuned to increase maximum front and rear suspension travel, with the differentials constructed, so both wheels spin in tandem despite resistance.

Another neat feature of this new Sierra is Terrain Mode, which works best in low-speed, off-road conditions, as it allows the driver to have a lot of control and precision through the accelerator.

A lot of components greatly benefit from the protection of the enhanced skid plates. These skid plates are constructed from Boron steel and are hot-stamped with AEV's signature. This new development gives the plates 3.5 times the strength of equivalent cold-stamped steel, keeping numerous crucial interior components intact during the rumble and tumble of off-roading, like the steering gear, fuel tank, front approach, transfer case, and rear differential.

These components of the new Sierra are all safe and sound thanks to these strong skid plates, benefiting greatly from their protection. The Boron steel skid plates greatly resist bending and gouging, and they offer enhanced impact resistance, hardness, and underbody protection, regardless of the roughness of the terrain.

When the new Sierra 1500 was constructed, the interior benefited greatly from the redesign. The interior is described by GMC as a “refined obsidian rush,” with technical-grained leather accents. The front seats have a massage feature, as well as 16-way power seats.

These seats also showcase full-grain leather, and they even get more detailed with their red and white double-needle stitching. Further, black-finished Authentic Vanta ash wood trim accentuates the door panels, and the instrument panel showcases leather trim.

To add to the luxurious design, the microsuede headliner, sun visors, and pillars all feature premium microsuede. It's not all about design either: drivers and passengers can enjoy their favorite songs with a 12-Speaker Bose premium series that uses Centerpoint surround sound to make the experience more enjoyable.

This model of GMC Sierra is an AEV edition, and AEV is a company that's been around since 1997. They supply high-quality, performance-driven aftermarket parts and accessories specifically made for off-road vehicles. Their goal is to keep making new boundaries for innovation and design, and they aim to make any vehicle associated with their company higher quality through off-road parts and accessories.

Case in point? AEV has its stamp all over the GMC 2023 Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition. The AEV-inspired enhancements are no slouch, either. The steel front and rear bumpers bear the AEV stamp, and they're made with three-millimeter heavy-duty steel. Further, the bumpers are both powder and e-coated to provide superior durability, along with UV and corrosion resistance.

One feature this Sierra has that is unique to its class is that its factory-installed front bumper is winch-capable. The aforementioned, boron steel skid plates also bear the AEV stamp, and it has a significant trailer capability. The embroidered headrests and all-weather floor liners also bear the AEV branding.
